About

Matt Billingslea is a Nashville-based drummer, writer, producer, educator and clinician. Since 2013, Matt has been performing all over the world with Grammy winning international superstar Taylor Swift, including countless television/promotional appearances, award shows, and four record-breaking world tours. Tours have included performances with guest artists such as Mick Jagger, Mary J Blige, Justin Timberlake, Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, Nelly, Ed Sheeran, Tim McGraw, Keith Urban, Ricky Martin, Wiz Khalifa, Beck, Ryan Tedder, and Bryan Adams, to name a few.

Originally from Westminster, MD, Matt earned a Bachelor of Music from Capital University in Columbus, OH. After college, he spent four years in Denver, CO, performing and recording with various regional artists before moving to Nashville in the spring of 2005.

Once in Nashville, the hustle began. After a few years of local gigs, recording sessions and low-level touring, Matt fell into a three-year stint with multi-Grammy winners Lady A. During that time he co-wrote “Wanted You More,” a top-20 single from Lady A’s third album, Own The Night. Matt has also performed and/or recorded with Kane Brown, Gary Allan, Thompson Square, David Nail, James Otto, Josh Thompson, Jimmy Wayne, Joey & Rory, Mindy McCready, Dustin Lynch, and Craig Wayne Boyd, among others.

As a clinician/educator, Matt has done a variety of lectures and master classes, has served as an artist-in-residence for the Capital University Jazz Week, and has presented at PASIC and the TN Day of Percussion. He also served as an adjunct faculty member at Lipscomb University for 3 years.

In 2025, Matt is actively releasing original music for the first time. Under the name ‘One For August,’ you can hear Matt exploring his own voice, production, and songwriting. With a few other projects in the works, Matt is currently enjoying some time off the road with his wife and two kids.
